Transformers: Dark of the Moon- C-

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was an improvement from Revenge of the Fallen, but it turned out to be another failure in the franchise.

After a while of thinking, I came to the conclusion that with the improvements made, Bay managed to create another ridiculous Transformers movie. The biggest problem was the attempts at what some would call humor. I've never watched something so forced to the point where the only reason you are staying is because of the awesome visual effects. I did take the movie more seriously with the entire scenario thanks to the improved story but there was still help needed.

Not everything was horrible about this movie. I liked the story, and I of course liked the sound mixing, and editing as well as the visual effects that seem to impress me more and more everytime, but this franchise just can't find it's way back to it's original state where the characters were fun to watch, the humor was spot on, and there wasn't much to complain about. Bad Teacher- C+

Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is a bad teacher who, after being dumped, tries to find a man with money. To do that she feels the need to get breast implants. Scott Delecorte (Justin Timberlake) is a nerdy substitute who has a lot of money on his hands. Elizabeth finds herself in a frustrating position when her dream man is crushing on the one teacher she hates. Elizabeth then schemes herself through getting a raise so she can afford her implants and land the dreamy substitute with money.

Bad Teacher is a more good than bad comedy. Not only does it have a fun story, but it also has likable characters. Cameron Diaz plays a selfish rude teacher that doesn't care about anything but getting breast implants and finding a man with money. Although she is yes, a bad teacher who takes drugs to school, doesn't really teach at all and has a horrible way of life, I still find her likable in many ways. Shes one of those characters you cant get enough of. Scott Delacorte a character that plays it safe and is more or less nerdy but he has his moments. Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch) is the teacher who appears to have the best intentions (and she does) but is also trying to find blood on Elizabeth's hands after she sees through her kind act she has going on. Russel Gettis (Jason Segel) is a gym teacher who is in many ways very compatible with Elizabeth.

Overall Bad Teacher ended being not so bad. Yes, Diaz throughout the movie doesn't show much of a change in her way of life other than having a better attitude but I didn't think it was necessary. I loved her character and I didn't really want a change in her. One thing I will praise in this movie is the relationship between Halsey (Diaz) and Gettis (Segel). Their relationship was portrayed so perfectly fun and realistic. B-

Why Do Critics Hate Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides?

The fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was a success from my point of view. On the other hand, critics agree that Pirates 4 was a disappointment. I knew that the new Pirates movie would be a flop in critics eyes  but not for the reason that it was a bad movie, but for the reason that it was another Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

You would think that Pirates 4 would be a stretch because the two previous movies were one story put into two, and the third movie seemed like the end of Pirates of the Caribbean. I agree that the franchise could have ended there and they could have called it good but I, and I'm sure many others, crave Johnny Depp's iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow or just another Pirates movie. Yes, the franchise has to end somewhere but lets keep it going for now.

The first movie of the franchise was a huge success with the critics and the box office. It was the first we heard of Captain Jack Sparrow and the first we heard of the franchise. The first of a franchise is one of the many key points why critics loved it. It was fresh and something everyone loved. The characters in this movie was perfection. The development between William Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) was accomplished in a very successful way and Barbossa's (Geoffery Rush) hate relationship between him and Jack made the movie even more complete. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl was good in critics eyes for the same reason it is mine, being that it was a good movie all around.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is the second of the franchise and the most successful in the box office as of right now. Critics however didn't favor the movie nearly as much as the first film. I didn't think it was better than the original but I didn't think it was a bad movie. It had too much going on in the story but I didn't think it was a huge step down.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was more confusing than the first two. The third of the franchise was even less liked by critics. I thought that yes, the story is still over flowing with other character's side stories and the movie could have been better if they didn't have so many different stories and situations into one movie but I think that At World's End is in the same range as Dead Man's Chest and wasn't a huge step down at all from the original. It is actually interesting to see how the franchise has developed over time.

In the fourth Pirates, we finally got what we wanted. That being a story that is not confusing, complicated and straight foward. I think this is the best Pirates since the original. Yes, it is different and there is a big change in characters but I enjoyed it. The addition to mermaids is a huge plus for me in more ways than one. It added a great scene but I think the relationship between a mermaid and human is an interesting thing. Also Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has spectacular scenes. Sure, the visual effects aren't the best but they don't take away from the experience. Overall it was a step up from the two previous films.
So why do critics hate the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? There didn't need to be a fourth film, It was very different from the previous three films and they added characters who seemed to try to take the place of previous characters of the first three. Its only likely that there are people to are sick of the franchise but I would say majority don't mind it. The problem here is that some critics may be sick of the franchise or they didn't care for another one. Should this take away from how good the movie is? No! Unfortunately, this, I believe, is one of the biggest reasons why critics didn't favor On Stranger Tides. It was very different but there is a new director, almost a whole new cast and only three main characters remain. What do you expect?

This is why I think critics hate this film. Sure, they might have other reasons they hate it but these are the reasons that contributed to the horrible response the most. I guarantee that if this was the first we heard of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, it would have gotten a better response.

6/10-6/12 Weekend Box Office

Super 8 opened with not a wimpy or big weekend, but passing forecasts with an estimated $37 million. A good comparison would be District 9, opening with a close 37.4 million. Turns out that Super 8 wasn't as eventful as it was made out to be.

X-Men: First Class performed better than most of it's predecessors in its second weekend earning an estimated $25 million bringing its domestic total to $98.8 million, and worldwide total to $223 million.

In third was The Hangover Part II  with an estimated $18.5 million now with a domestic total to $216.5 million and a worldwide total of $431.3 million. In fourth was Kung Fu Panda 2 holding on strong earning $16.6 million in its third weekend with a domestic total of $126.9 million bringing its worldwide total to $331.9 million. Pirates of The Caribbean edged out Bridesmaids with $10.8 million with a domestic total of $208.7 million and with a worldwide total of an impressive $886.7 million. Bridesmaids was the most impressive again earning $10.8 million, now with a domestic total of $124 million.

Super 8- B

Super 8 is a movie that reminds us of movies we love such as E.T. (Directed by Spielberg). Super 8 (Directed by J.J Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg) was a good movie but even though it reminds us of such movies, it doesn't live up to them. It delivers spectacular scenes of all kinds but it didn't impress me the most it could have throughout the movie.

Super 8 takes place in 1979. A group of kids witness a train crash while filming a movie near by with a Super 8 camera. After the crash, strange events and disappearances start to happen. When the group of youngsters learn more about the crash, they take action.

The cast of Super 8 delivers good performances. The group of youngsters have this sort of charm. They are irresistibly funny and at times emotional and I'm very appreciative that kids from this generation can make a movie where they don't have to take off their shirts every two seconds.

This wasn't a bad movie but it didn't impress me the most that it could have. The beginning drew me in, the middle somewhat lost my attention and towards the end it finally impressed me, but only for a little bit. There were times where I was in love with the movie but times where I was expecting more. Let me just say, Super 8 didn't exactly live up the the hype, but I am truly appreciative for this movie. B

X-Men: First Class- B+

The X-Men come back with another movie that may be the best one yet. Better story and a great cast that delivers great performances. Though I have to say that the beginning to middle of the movie was my more favorable half, I still enjoyed it. The fifth installment of the franchise is a success.

X-Men: First Class introduces us to some familiar super heroes we've seen in previous movies and some unfamiliar faces. The movie starts out with this charm to it. The movie drags you in and you soon find yourself wanting more. It is cool to see the story behind the amazing X-Men and how they came to be. This movie makes its predecessors better than they were.  There is much more to this movie than just heroes saving the day or mutants feeling hated and not accepted by the world. You truly experience and feel how each character came to be.

As the movie went on I was feeling more unfavorable towards the end. It lacked something that it had in the beginning. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't the best it could be. After watching the first half it was a little disappointing but im still in favor of the movie because X-Men: First Class exceeded my expectations, pulled the franchise out of the ditch it was left behind in by X-Men Origins: Wolverine and it was on the verge of being one of my favorite movies. B+

Memorial Day Weekend Box Office

This weekend Kung Fu Panda fell short and The Hangover Part II was on top. The Hangover Part II made a massive $105.8 million in its 4 day weekend, making its five-day total to an estimated $137.4 million. Kung Fu Panda on the other hand didn't do so well and fell short from the forecasts and of it's predecessor.

This Memorial Day weekend was the top grossing Memorial Day weekend ever, but sequels still fell short. Kung Fu Panda fell, making an estimated $62.2 million in its 4 day weekend, making its five-day total to an estimated $68 million. The first Kung Fu Panda made $60.3 million on its non-holiday weekend and a five-day total of $72.8 million. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides took a slip domestically, making $50.4 million over the holiday weekend making its total $164 million in 11 days. However, Pirates is doing more than OK over seas with a total of $470.8 million, bringing its overall box office to a massive $634.8 million.

Pirates Top the Weekend Box Office

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides proved it still had some life left in it. It didn't show as much as its previous movies, but it made a good $90.1 million. In the foreign box office it grew stronger earning a massive $256.3 million breaking a couple of records. It topped Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for highest grossing weekend of all time.

Bridesmaids showed an impressive second weekend box office with an estimated $21.1 million with a 20 percent drop, even more impressive than any recent comedy including the 40-Year-Old-Virgin and The Hangover. Thor is also holding on strong with a good $15.5 million. Taking the fourth place is Fast Five earning a $10.6 million and in 5th is Rio with a $4.65 million.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides- B+

Let me start off by saying this didn't feel like a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It was different. I guess you can say it's because there is a new director, half of the original cast was gone and only three remain but I enjoyed it. When I heard there was going to be another Pirates of the Caribbean I can tell you exactly what I was expecting.

I love Pirates of the Caribbean and when I found out about the fourth, I couldn't wait! I knew it was going to be about the Fountain of Youth because of the ending of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and I could picture the entire movie in my head until I found out there wasnt going to be anymore Will or Elizabeth. I honestly didn't think they would make much of a difference being that I didn't care about them much in the first three. Boy was I wrong. Turns out that Will and Elizabeth were a big part to the movie for me. I'm not saying that this movie was bad without them but it just wasnt the same.

On Stranger Tides was a very risky movie for such a big franchise. It changed drastically compared to the other movies in a way I'm not sure about. I loved the first two movies and the third was alright but this one was so different and I think I liked it.

Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns in the fourth of the franchise and is looking for the Fountain of Youth. First he escapes from London where he reunites with Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) to find out that the Black Pearl has been stolen but then finds himself  apart of the crew of Black Beard's (Ian McShane) ship and reunites with his ex-lover Angelica (Penélope Cruz). Jack then finds out that Black Beard has possession over the Black Pearl. Turns out they are after the fountain as well and is in a race against Captain Barbossa and the Spanish but once they get there (after the funny business of Jack and Barbossa together) we find out the Spanish aren't so much for the fountain of youth and have different plans for it. Now Jack has to retrieve the water from the fountain first in the middle of battle while Barbossa seems to have business to take care of with Black Beard.

On Stranger Tides is different but not in the way you don't want it to be. It has a lot in store for you including the amazing mermaid scene which was my favorite scene and might just be one of the greatest scenes that the Pirates of the Caribbean has ever delivered. With that being said, On Stranger Tides was definitely an improvement from At World's End. B+

Thor- A-

Thor exceeded my expectations. From the marvelous visual effects to the outstanding action, Thor impressed me. Thor did what not many blockbusters can and proved to us there is more than just a cheap plot to keep a blockbuster going.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was born into royalty in the realm of Asgard and intends to be king, but when he crosses his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) he is stripped of his powers and is sent to Earth. Thor then is rescued by a team of scientists, where he meets Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Thor is now trying to find his way to get his mighty hammer back when he learns that his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is no more good than bad.

You couldn't ask more from the cast as they all deliver great performances. You really get into the entire movie and a lot of the reason you do is because the great chemistry that Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman create.

Thor is a funny movie with emotion between and action in many sequences. Thor proves to it's audiences there is so much more to a blockbuster. The best comic-book adaption since The Dark Knight but not just a good comic book adaption, but a great movie period! A-
